Ed Ames, Associate Certified Coach

Ed's Preferred Pronouns: he/him/his or they/them/their

Ed was born in New Hampshire, started kindergarten at Rhein-Mein Air Force Base in (West) Germany, and graduated from high school on Long Island, New York.  After graduation, Ed moved back to New Hampshire to live closer to his older siblings.  Eventually, Ed settled in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, where he has lived for nearly 30 years.  Ed has been with his husband for nearly 25 years, and they have a daughter and son.

Ed spent time with a Catholic religious community and once planned to become a priest.  After leaving the religious community, in his early twenties, Ed was hired by the federal government.  While working fulltime, Ed attended college at night to get his dream degree in psychology.  He first graduated with an associate's degree from Northern Virginia Community College, and then moved on to graduate from the University of Maryland Global Campus (formerly University College) with a bachelor's degree in psychology with minors in management and sociology.

Ed's career highlights include more than 28 years of federal human resources experience in different specialties, with different agencies in  leadership, field, and headquarters positions.  He has been with his current agency for nearly 16 years.  In his current role, Ed serves as an internal coach and manages the agency's coaching program.

Ed first became interested in the coaching profession when two coaching colleagues planned to attend a coaching conference and invited him to go.  That conference and other professionals sharing  their own powerful coaching experiences brought Ed to embrace coaching and his desire to enter the profession.

As a coach, Ed has partnered with clients using his strong intuition and understanding of human nature.  He has provided executive coaching, life coaching, career coaching, and spiritual coaching (Christianity, Islam, and Judaism).  Ed has worked with individual clients on personal development, work/life balance, individual and organizational performance, leadership skills, interpersonal communication and conflict, and HIV and AIDS.

During his federal career, Ed has been a part of various employee interest groups/teams and committees, to include an elder support group, Weight Watchers, an LGBTQIA+ Pride Alliance, a human resources office softball team (called the Terminators), and served as a mentor to other employees.  Outside of work Ed has belonged to community and church choruses, volunteered with his son's and daughter's scouting organizations and schools, and nonprofits serving the LGBTQIA+ community.

Ed is an Associate Certified Coach (ACC) with the International Coaching Federation (ICF). He completed his coach training with the ICF accredited Federal Internal Coach Training Program in 2017.

Ed’s goal as a coach is to walk beside his clients when they need/want someone to help them recognize and understand their own talents, emotions, spirituality, values, and intellect.
